Weddings in the Island of Malta

Consider getting married on the island of Malta, where several millenia of history still dominate this Mediterranean jewel. Create your ideal romantic wedding, taking your vows in the salt-sea air or inside one of its famed cathedrals or churches. With 7000 years of history and stunning seascapes, this charming destination offers unique experiences. Immerse yourself in its medieval stone villages and experience the charm of its cobblestone streets and ancient structures. A wedding in Malta is ideal, with a backdrop of centuries of history and dazzling geography. Experience the Mediterranean breezes that wash across Northern Africa in spring and fall and blow in from the northeast in winter. The terrain on the island is sparse, characterized by a mostly rocky landscape with no mountains or rivers. However, flowers abound in the months of February and March transforming it into a lovely and verdant land. On the southwest coast, the Dingli cliffs create steep slopes, escarpments, and valleys which are narrow.  Near the capital of Valletta, small harbors and coves abound, including the naturally deep Grand Harbor. Diving and snorkeling and other water sports like swimming, skiing, windsurfing, and sailing are popular here. Fishing by the island men is mostly for leisure. It is done with unusually long fishing rods to reach out over the craggy cliffs, because the fish do not swim close to shore. Here and there inland, you will see reservoirs and privately-owned windmills built to irrigate the farmland. In Valletta, you can see remains of the Mnajdra Megalithic Temples. Also, Malta was the site of a decisive battle between the army of Islam and the forces of Christianity in the year 1565. Each year, this event is celebrated on September 8th.  If you tire of the sun and beach scenery, come into town and marvel at the cultural life and statues in Republic Square. Take in market day, a soccer game, the Bibliotheca, art galleries or the beautiful Baroque Manoel theatre, the third oldest theatre in the world. Dine at one of the many fine and reasonably priced restaurants. The cuisine is distinctly that of Malta, with locally grown vegetables throughout the year and slow-cooking methods. Sometimes food is still roasted in the baker’s oven, going back to the old days. Two popular dishes are fenek, which is rabbit, and lampuka, a seasonal swordfish. Many of the restaurants offer dishes influenced by Italy and France, as well as a variety of soups. Bring your love to Malta and begin your marriage among the sun, sea, and a rich history; a unique retreat and treasure of the Mediterranean.
